The brief

The Seattle Oriental Art Collection is a family trust with deep roots in the antiques trade. According to Shanghai's County Records, the family's grandfather, Cai Baochun, established an antique company in Shanghai and Paris in 1911 and later worked with C.T. Loo, one of the most influential dealers of his era, as a supplier in China.

The family wanted a website that honors that history and shares the collection, which spans the Late Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, with the care of a museum. Serious collectors also expect documentation, so the site had to publish thermoluminescence (TL) test results openly, reach collectors in other countries, and be clear that visitors are responsible for authentication.
